Overview
The Lawrenceville School's Bunn Library is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual as a 10 month (late August 2022 - June 2023) part time Reference Librarian to help cover nights and weekends, as well as a paternity leave for 3 months in the winter term.The individual will have one evening and some weekend reference desk coverage and will be a backup at the reference desk during the day if needed. At the reference desk, duties include answering directional and reference queries, monitoring the building, and generally assisting patrons with the use of library resources, including online databases and citation help. The librarian will also work with a team on collection development and ordering new materials in Ingram. Other duties and projects as assigned, which may include assisting with the library's outreach programs. Schedule: At least one evening shift (start time and day of week negotiable), Sunday hours tbd, and more coverage as needed.
Responsibilities
Collection development responsibilities primarily in the areas of social sciences and humanities, some fiction. Orders books using Ipage in Ingram. Reference Desk duties include answering directional, research, and citation questions; with some circulation duties as needed. Oversight for the library operations at night and on the weekends includes monitoring high school students using the space. Assisting with Outreach programs as needed.
Qualifications
M.L.S. or equivalent degree from an ALA accredited program required; candidates in the process of completing an MLS degree will be strongly considered.Proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel and Google Suite; experience with Microsoft Windows & its file structure (local & networked) and downloading and exporting files.Candidates must have an attention to detail and be accurate in data entry, possess strong organizational skills, an ability to prioritize and multi-task, as well as demonstrated strong searching and bibliographic skills.We seek someone who is energetic, creative, flexible, and enthusiastic about working with young people. Candidates must be able to engage with high school students in a positive and professional manner. Flexibility in scheduling a must and a willingness to work cooperatively in a team setting.Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations within the school community and the public.PreferencesPrevious work experience in a library setting and some reference desk experience. Knowledge of online databases and experience in helping students with research and citation skills.
