Alterations Specialist
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be able to distinguish between subtle shades.
Proven ability to work with little or no supervision and ability to follow directions precisely.
Willingness and ability to work full weekdays, and also occasional Saturdays and evenings.
Must have the ability to pass a background check.
Must be capable of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and completing repetitive motions.
Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time (approximately 6 hours or more incrementally per day).
Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. unassisted and 50 lbs. with assistance.
Experience in cutting, measuring, sewing, crafting is required.
Must provide examples of sewing, both independently and in-person.
Knowledge of and experience with various types of notions (snaps, zippers, hooks, etc.) and threads.
Job Summary
The Alterations Specialist is responsible for all phases of alteration projects. The Alterations Specialist supports the Production Manager in receiving projects from customers and performing customer service duties as a backup.
Nature and Scope
This position works under the direction of the Production Manager with frequent exercise of independent judgment. Interacts frequently with Seamstresses, Owner, Production Manager and customers as a backup.
Responsibilities
Technical / Sewing and Alterations
Prepares, executes, and completes alterations projects to include:
Hems (take up / let down) pants, dresses, skirts, sleeves
Take in / let out (center back, side seams, darts)
Zippers
Mend / patch
Replace elastic
Operates all sewing equipment, including sewing machines, sergers, scissors and rotary cutters.
Conforms to company quality control standards.
Communicates with other team members verbally and in writing.
Customer Service
Performs fittings with customers.
Assists customers, receives projects from customers and enters details in system in the absence of Production Manager.
Creates invoices and accepts customer payments.
Answers the phone as a backup function.
Maintenance
Cleans dressing room following customer fitting sessions.
Performs regular maintenance of the equipment.
Cleans and tidies their individual work area.
Administrative
Follows opening and closing duties checklists.
Maintaining supply par levels and communicating supply shortages.
Keeps accurate physical and electronic records of sewing processes, measurements and other data.
General
Follows applicable company policies and procedures.
Suggests ideas to improve the operation of the company at appropriate meetings.
Complete other general duties within the company.
